WPSSFBA presents leadership awards to Oakland Military Institute Cadets

WPSSFBA 2nd VP, Nina Leslie and Member at Large, Jerry Varnado '07 attended the Oakland Military Institute (OMI) pass and review to present leadership awards to 4 outstanding cadets.  The Oakland Military Institute College Preparatory Academy develops leaders of character by providing a rigorous 7 year college preparatory program to promote excellence in the pillars of academics, leadership, citizenship, and athletics.


Be Thou at Peace: Bill Schwartz

We regret to announce of fellow Bay Area Graduate, Bill Schwartz ‘59.  LTC William Schwartz, USA Retired, USMA 1959, Cullum 22621 passed away on December 5, 2014 in Oakland, CA.  Bill leaves behind his, wife, Mrs. Joyce Schwartz.

Bill truly exemplified the values and ideals of West Point.  He served on active duty for 21 years, including two tours in Vietnam.  Bill was a Professor at West Point in the Social Sciences Department from 1966 – 1969.  In retirement, Bill was an active Admissions Liaison Volunteer.  Just prior to the 2014 Founders Day Dinner, GEN Caslen presented a Certificate of Recognition to Bill, honoring his work in the Admissions Area.

Bill will be buried at West Point on Monday, December 15.  A service will be held in the Bay Area early in 2015.

Bay Area Cadet Raising Money for Tug McGraw Foundation & Running Marine Corps Marathon

Bay area native Cadet Jose Quintero-Garcia is planning to run the Marine Corps Marathon in October with 50 other members of Team RWB and needs to raise $1000 for Tug McGraw Foundation in order to participate
